Sleep Disorder Treatments
Our Sleep Center, LLC we believe in the patient’s right to be actively involved in their treatment. For patients with sleep apnea, we have ongoing relationships with local dentists and ENT surgeons to offer treatment options extending to oral appliance therapy and surgical approaches. If CPAP is deemed necessary, we have the ability to set the patient up with their machine right there in the office.
An oral appliance can be used to treat snoring and mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea by moving the lower jaw forward slightly. This forward movement tightens the soft tissue and muscles of the upper airway, which prevents obstructing the airway while you sleep. The tightening created by the device also prevents the tissues of the upper airway from vibrating as air passes over them (the most common cause of loud snoring). Anchorage Sleep Center, LLC keeps ongoing relationships with specially trained dentists to evaluate and treat with this approach.
Skilled ENT (ear, nose, and throat) surgeons can evaluate and, in some cases, successfully alleviate the symptoms of mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea and upper airway resistance syndrome. ENT surgery may also be indicated in improving severe obstructive sleep apnea CPAP user compliance by lowering their therapeautic presure. CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy is still the most commonly prescribed method of treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. A CPAP machine works by delivering a prescribed amount of air pressure through a comfortably fit mask worn during sleep. This slight pressure works to keep the patients airway from collapsing, thus leading to a more restful and healthier night’s sleep. At Anchorage Sleep Center, LLC we can setup patients on CPAP and continue providing their ongoing supplies right there in the office.
Cognitive behavioral therapy may be indicated for patients with insomnia. Cognitive behavioral therapy works by changing the sleep habits and scheduling factors, as well as misconceptions about sleep and insomnia, that perpetuate sleep difficulties.
